SANTA CLARITA : Travel Times on Metrolink Reduced

Share

A new Metrolink schedule that goes into effect Monday will decrease travel times for train commuters from Santa Clarita and other areas, officials said Thursday.

David Solow, deputy executive director of Metrolink, said the more efficient schedule is the result of signal and track improvements in the Metrolink maintenance area near downtown Los Angeles.

Travel time on all three Metrolink lines to downtown Los Angeles--from Santa Clarita, Ventura and San Bernardino--will be reduced by eight to 14 minutes per trip, Solow said. The change will reduce one-way travel times on the Santa Clarita line an average of 12 minutes. Riders traveling on the first train that leaves the Santa Clarita station each morning will trim 14 minutes off their commute, leaving nine minutes later and arriving five minutes earlier at 6:35 a.m.

Rush-hour departure times from Union Station in Los Angeles will be delayed to give more riders an opportunity to catch the trains, Solow said. The Metrolink that now leaves Union Station for Santa Clarita at 5:20 p.m. will be delayed by 10 minutes starting Monday, but is still scheduled to arrive at the Santa Clarita station at 6:27 p.m.

Copies of the new schedule can be obtained by calling 1-800-371-LINK between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., Solow said.

Daily ridership on the Metrolink commuter trains, which went into service Oct. 26, is estimated at 2,800 passengers per day, Solow said.
