LAGUNA HILLS : Woman Jogger Escapes Attacker

A man attacked a female jogger, demanding that she surrender money and disrobe, but the woman resisted and escaped unharmed, sheriff’s officials said Thursday.

The 26-year-old Laguna Hills woman was jogging alone on La Paz Road near Alameda Avenue about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday when she was grabbed from behind and dragged into some nearby brush, said Sgt. Dave Remender.

As the woman screamed, the man demanded money twice and then demanded she take her clothes off. The woman resisted, and the man ran off, Remender said.

The victim told investigators she did not see the man’s face. She said that shortly before the attack, a man jogged past her in the opposite direction. She said the man caught her attention because he was running in socks but no shoes.

She described him as a white man in his late 20s to early 30s. He was about 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 190 pounds and wore a white shirt and jeans, she said.

Remender said investigators do not think the Wednesday night attack is connected to the three assaults or rapes of women jogging or walking near Wilderness Glen Park in Mission Viejo that have occurred since May.
