SAN DIEGO : Seaman Must Stand Trial in Slayings
A Navy enlisted man accused of murdering two prostitutes has been ordered to stand trial after a judge heard testimony from a woman he allegedly shot in the leg.
Municipal Judge Frank Brown on Thursday ordered Eric Charles Lockhart to stand trial on two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and seven counts of robbery.
Lockhart, 27, was a petty officer assigned to the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk before his arrest.
Jacqueline Flynt identified Lockhart as the man who shot her May 28 in Logan Heights. Three other women identified Lockhart as the man who robbed them in separate incidents.
Freda Woods, 25, and Rosemary Curry, 35, were fatally shot June 20 in East San Diego. Curry was gunned down only blocks from where Flynt was attacked three weeks before.
Lockhart, who is being held without bail, will be arraigned and receive a trial date in Superior Court on Jan. 5. At that time, Deputy Dist. Atty. David Greenberg is expected to announce whether he will seek the death penalty in the case.
