Bring Back Bank’s Yule Tree

Share

Are there going to be any childhood memories left for either us or our children?

Another tradition is being taken away from us. The Glendale Federal Bank at Woodman Avenue and Riverside Drive has chosen to retire its beautiful rooftop Christmas tree as of this year.

Every year my children have closed their eyes when we entered the intersection on Thanksgiving night to be awed by this beautiful, colorful sight. This year the sky was dark and the disappointment was overwhelming.

We called the bank and asked why. The reason was cost. We wonder why the cost can’t be cut without taking away a tradition that has lasted since 1964, that leaves us with a feeling of camaraderie and a sense of community.

No wonder there is such unhappiness all around us. Maybe with a little persistence, we can persuade the bank to light the tree for this 1992 season and more to come.
