Long Beach : Fire Damages Cedar House Center for Abused Children
- Share via
An accidental fire caused more than $150,000 damage early Wednesday to Cedar House, a nationally recognized center for the prevention and treatment of child abuse, an official said.
Firefighters put out the flames in the two-story building in 10 minutes and the only injury was to a fireman, who was treated for burns at a local hospital and released in good condition, Fire Department spokesman Robert A. Caldon said. No one was in the building when the fire broke out, officials said.
But Cedar House, at 605 Cedar Ave., was seriously damaged and officials did not know when the nonprofit program for abused children would resume. More than 70 children were enrolled in the program.
Caldon said a floor heater started the fire.
