LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Dixon to Step Down as Top Administrator Jan. 15

Share

Embattled Los Angeles County Chief Administrative Officer Richard B. Dixon said he will leave office on Jan. 15, following four controversial years as one of the most powerful public administrators in America.

Dixon had announced his intention to retire in July, but waited to set a fixed date for his departure while attempting to resolve the county’s budgetary problems.

In a letter to the Board of Supervisors, Dixon said that while he will miss county service and his colleagues, “I am convinced my departure is best for the county.”

Board of Supervisors Chairman Ed Edelman said, “While I have had my disagreements with Richard Dixon over the years, there can be no doubt of his deep devotion to Los Angeles County throughout 34 years of service.”

Dixon had been criticized by the County Grand Jury for raising pension benefits by $265 million without a vote of the Board of Supervisors.
