PALMDALE : K mart Seeks OK for 2 New Stores

K mart is proposing to close down its longtime Palmdale Boulevard store and open two new stores, one of those in the middle of a residential neighborhood east of town, the other near the Antelope Valley Mall.

The Palmdale City Council, meeting Thursday night, held off a decision on granting a zone change for the residential site that could ultimately result in a 128,000-square-foot K mart shopping center at the southeast corner of 45th Street East and Avenue S.

Residents who live near the Avenue S site spoke in opposition of the project at last month’s City Council meeting, saying it was incompatible with the area, and voiced concerns about increased traffic and safety issues. The project is scheduled to be considered Thursday at a council meeting on the General Plan.
