COLLEGE BASKETBALL REGIONAL ROUNDUP : St. Mary’s Upsets Villanova in Overtime, 65-64

Darrell Daniel made a three-point basket with one second to play in overtime to give St. Mary’s a 65-64 victory over Villanova on Saturday at Moraga, Calif.

The Wildcats (1-1) seemed headed for victory when Kerry Kittles sank two free throws to give Villanova a 13-point lead midway through the second half.

However, the Gaels (1-2) rallied and Martel Bland hit a three-pointer with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Todd Manley scored 14 points and Stanford (2-2) held Cal State Sacramento (0-5) to two baskets in a 13-minute stretch of the second half of a 68-33 victory at Palo Alto. . . . Randy Reid scored 18 points and Brigham Young (3-1) beat Georgia, 74-64, in the championship game of the Cougar Classic at Provo, Utah. Kendal Rhine scored 25 points for the Bulldogs (2-2). . . . Steve Wydman hit a James Madison player with a bad pass but regained possession and made a layup with 25 seconds to play in overtime to give Penn State (3-2) a 75-74 victory over the Dukes (3-2) at State College, Pa. Bryan Edwards had 28 points for James Madison. . . . Pittsburgh (3-1) overcame 30 points by Marsalis Basey of West Virginia (2-2) and the Panthers escaped with an 82-78 victory at Pittsburgh.

James Robinson scored 28 points and Alabama (3-0) beat Southern Mississippi, 86-76, at Tuscaloosa, Ala. Terry Cameron scored 23 points for the Bulldogs (0-4). . . . Stanley Jackson scored 21 points for Alabama Birmingham (6-1) in an 87-68 victory over Texas Arlington (4-1) in the championship game of the UAB Classic at Birmingham, Ala.

SOUTHWEST

Bryant Reeves scored 20 points, extending his streak of consecutive baskets to 19 before missing, to lead Oklahoma State (3-1) to a 93-75 victory over Baylor (4-1) at Stillwater, Okla. . . . Greg Brown sank the go-ahead basket with 2:26 to play and New Mexico (3-1) went on to a 69-62 victory over New Mexico State (5-2) at Las Cruces.
