PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Starting Slow Has Been Costly

Share

The Rams continue to be one of the NFL’s slowest-starting teams. They have been outscored in the first quarter, 94-21, and in the first half, 197-91.

“It’s been true most of the year, and I don’t know the reason,” Coach Chuck Knox said. “I would like to have a more consistent offense all the way around, but it’s just something that you have to grow into.”

Well, there’s always the second half. The Rams have outscored opponents, 171-131, after halftime.

Knox, the sixth coach in NFL history to coach in 300 regular-season games, will be making his first trip to Green Bay’s Lambeau Field on Sunday. His teams have played the Packers five times in Milwaukee, but he has never coached in Green Bay. . . . Jim Everett, who has 10 more touchdown passes and six fewer interceptions than his 1991 totals, is 480 yards shy of Roman Gabriel’s all-time team record of 22,223 yards passing. Everett also needs 29 more completions and 21 more touchdown passes to surpass Gabriel’s career marks of 1,705 completions and 154 touchdowns.
