IRVINE WORLD NEWS TOURNAMENT : University Sets Scoring Record in 120-90 Victory

Demi Zeigler made nine three-pointers and finished with 46 points to lead the University boys’ basketball team to a 120-90 victory over San Pedro in a first-round game of the Irvine World News Tournament Tuesday at Woodbridge High.

Zeigler, a 6-foot-3 junior, fouled out with about four minutes remaining. University (1-3) broke the tournament team scoring record of 112 set by Loara in 1990.

Raymond Tutt, who entered the game averaging 37 points, scored 44 for San Pedro (3-6).

In other games:

Marina 67, Santa Ana Valley 62--Junior center Eric Endsley scored 27 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Marina (3-2) at Woodbridge High.

Endsley made 10 of 17 field goals and didn’t miss a shot in the fourth quarter. Santa Ana Valley (2-4) moved to within three points, 65-62, after Anthony Porter and Richard Lopez made three-point baskets, but Marina’s Matt Keim clinched the victory by making two free throws with 11 seconds left.

Kennedy 72, Compton 65--Forward Jeff Cummins made two free throws with 11 seconds remaining for Kennedy (2-3) to hold off Compton’s fourth-quarter rally. Cummins finished with 20 points. Teammate Rich Anderson scored 23 points. Jocobi Thompsen had 27 points for Compton (3-3).

Saddleback 87, San Clemente 79--Chris Bradshaw scored 23 points and Dan Cassidy had 10 rebounds for Saddleback (2-2). Luke Mannix had 24 points for San Clemente (2-3). Teammate Matt Ortez had 21 points and hit five three-pointers.

Woodbridge 63, Santa Ana 46--Gig Movalia had 17 points and Arash Ghazinoor and John Florance each had 12 for Woodbridge (2-2). Darnell Adamson had 12 for Santa Ana (1-2).

Irvine 59, Sante Fe 47--Eric Ambrozich had 17 points, Greg Wakeham had 13 and Jim French 10 for host Irvine (4-1).
