RANCHO SANTA FE : Judge Won’t Unseal Spiro Warrant
- Share via
A San Diego Municipal Court judge declined Wednesday to unseal the warrant that San Diego County Sheriff’s Department detectives relied on last month in searching the Rancho Santa Fe house where the bodies of Ian Spiro’s wife and three children were found.
Judge Patricia A.Y. Cowett said unsealing the warrant might undermine the investigation into the slayings. The case has generated intense press attention and a stream of sensational murder theories because of Ian Spiro, a self-described commodities broker who reportedly had ties to business and intelligence contacts in Lebanon.
Spiro’s wife, Gail, 41, and the couple’s three children were found dead Nov. 5 at the family’s rented house in exclusive Rancho Santa Fe. Each had been shot in the head Nov. 1 or 2.
Spiro, 46, was found dead Nov. 8 in his Ford Explorer in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, three hours east of Rancho Santa Fe. The county medical examiner’s office said he died of cyanide poisoning.
