SOCCER ROUNDUP : Sciabica’s Goal Gets Unranked La Habra Past No. 4 Anaheim

David Sciabica headed in a goal with seven minutes left to give unranked La Habra a 2-1 victory over Anaheim, ranked fourth in Orange County, in a nonleague boys’ soccer match Wednesday at Anaheim.

Sciabica’s header came after a cross from Brendan Malm, who scored the first goal for La Habra (3-1-1). Alex Perez scored for Anaheim (4-2).

In other nonleague boys’ matches:

Esperanza 3, Estancia 1--Matt Espindola, Greg Masfey and Yancy Knox each scored for Esperanza (4-2-1).

Sonora 2, Ontario 2--Center halfback Chris Fernandez, a sophomore, scored both goals for Sonora (4-1-1). Ontario is 1-3-1.

Valencia 2, Canyon 2--Valencia (2-2-2) came back to tie the match on goals by Sergio Victorio and Scott Merrill in the second half. Steve Maynard and Hector Lopez scored for Canyon (1-1-2) in the first half.

El Dorado 2, Mission Viejo 1--Kevin Haynes scored the winning goal on an assist from Jason Bernard with 29 minutes remaining for El Dorado (5-0-1).

Sunset League boys:

Santa Ana 2, Fountain Valley 1--Jorge Perez and Hugo Ramirez each scored in the first half for Santa Ana (4-0, 1-0), the second-ranked team in the county. David Moore scored for Fountain Valley (1-2, 0-1).

Ocean View 1, Westminster 0 (OT)--Brian Engesser scored with one minute remaining in the second 10-minute overtime period for Ocean View (4-1, 1-0).

Huntington Beach 3, Marina 1--Robert Ryan, Mike Mills and Jose Torres each scored for Huntington Beach (3-3, 1-0).

Servite 1, Edison 0--Shawn Parchan scored on a header in the first half for host Servite (2-1-2, 1-0).

Garden Grove League boys:

Garden Grove 2, La Quinta 0--Tom Hastings and Alonzo Juarez scored for Garden Grove (3-1, 1-0).

Pacifica 2, Kennedy 0--Ron Weber and Vince Murry each scored in the second half for Pacifica (3-3, 1-0).

Santiago 3, Los Amigos 2--Rafael Mosqueda broke the tie with two minutes remaining for host Santiago (2-2-1, 1-0). Los Amigos rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit with goals by Gabriel Aceves and Jose Martinez. Mosqueda and Anthony Rodriguez scored in the first half for Santiago. Brian Laske had 25 saves for Los Amigos.

Nonleague girls:

Edison 1, Capistrano Valley 0--With two minutes remaining, Edison’s Erin Bailey scored the deciding goal on an assist from Maili Williams. Stephanie Hinkey had seven saves for Edison (4-2), ranked third in the county. Stefanie Jackel had eight saves for No. 10 Capistrano Valley (4-1-1).
