In response to your Dec. 9 editorial, “Fiscal Summitry, California Style”:

While I agree that it is welcome news that Assembly Speaker Willie Brown is willing to work with the governor and other state leaders, I wouldn’t be too quick in praising Brown just yet. Let’s not forget that his obstinate stance on workers’ compensation, his contempt for the governor and small businesses, and his iron-fisted rule of Assembly Democrats caused this mess to begin with.

I also agree that workers’ compensation reform must be the top priority of the Legislature. I sure hope that Speaker Brown and the Democrats who voted lock step against all the meaningful reform packages finally realize that this issue is crucial to the economic survival of our state. Let’s hope they don’t sell out to the attorneys, physicians and clinics . . . again.
