Baldwin Park : City to Start Park Expansion

Share

The City Council has taken the first step toward an eventual expansion and renovation of Morgan Park, the city’s largest park.

The council voted Wednesday to spend $400,000 in federal grant money to hire a landscape architect, who will draw up plans for the expansion, and to demolish city-owned vacant homes to the east of the existing park.

The homes, on about three acres, were acquired by the city in anticipation of expanding the park, City Manager Donald Penman said. Former tenants have been relocated.

Penman said the city plans to install new irrigation systems, lighting, game courts and renovated play areas in the park, with a total price tag of close to $1 million.

The money will come from federal community grants and park funds.
