In Defense of Ocean View
I live on Greenock Lane next to Ventura’s Marina Park. My neighbors and I have enjoyed our view of the ocean and harbor entrance for years.
Recently we have been forced to gather petitions and have had several meetings with city and park officials because of our opposition to their planting palm trees in the park. The trees would obstruct our view and because of the policy of neglect would look like the untrimmed palms on Pierpont Boulevard. The dead palm fronds are a haven for rats and pests and are also dangerous during windy spells. We presently have over 50 trees in the park and we know that any additional trees would give added shelter to gangs and others up to no good.
We have pleaded, begged and requested the city officials repeatedly not to plant more trees because we all like the park as it is. We are the taxpaying citizen neighbors and we feel that we might as well live under a dictatorship because of the way we are being treated.
If the city must spend the extra money, why don’t they put a lifeguard back on our park beach which would save lives rather than more unwanted trees?
