Economic Summit

In response to “Economics at Clinton’s Hangout,” Dec. 16:

I must say that President-elect Clinton and “the experts” should thoroughly study the social and economic issues in front of them before reaching the conclusion that education is the remedial answer to the problems. Many college graduates work at low-paying jobs such as those found in the fast-food industries for years while they attend college. However, if they are faced with a shrinking and highly competitive job market after graduation, a degree is worthless compared to on-the-job experience. The end result is that many college-educated people are forced to compete for jobs for which they are overqualified. This situation exists right now.

Clinton and his teammates should realize that the infrastructure of the economy itself will have to be reorganized to accommodate our skilled and educated work population. Talent will continue to be wasted if there are no positions for it to be exercised.
