From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Municipal authorities have recalled all credit cards issued to city officials and ordered an audit of expense accounts for the last two years after a preliminary review revealed excessive credit card use by top police officers. “There has been too much use of the credit cards in the Police Department for lunch expenses,” said City Manager William Huston, noting that some lunches were not properly explained or accounted for on expense vouchers. Councilman Jeff Thomas said he and two of his colleagues reviewed a year’s worth of charge account records, after receiving a tip from a city employee, and found some expenses to “appear questionable.” Top police officials were unavailable for comment.
