A parolee suspected of trying to steal $57,000 worth of watches by crashing a truck through glass doors of the Broadway last week was arrested Tuesday morning.

Timothy David Olguin, 32, was taken into custody without incident at the Whittier office of his parole officer after investigators received an anonymous tip, said Brea Police Detective Sgt. Tom J. Flenniken. Police would not say what Olguin was on parole for.

On Dec. 23, Olguin allegedly drove a stolen pickup through the glass doors of the department store at Brea Mall, smashed a jewelry case with a hammer and scooped 145 watches into two shopping bags.

The burglar dropped the bags and fled empty-handed when police arrived. After a four-mile chase through the city, he eluded police by jumping over the fence of a 100-acre tree nursery and disappearing.

Police recovered all the watches, which included expensive brand names such as Gucci and Movado, immediately after the burglary.

Olguin was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of burglary charges. Bail was set at $10,000, police said.
