BizMart Opening: BizMart, a 105-store chain based in Arlington, Tex., will be selling both office supplies and computer equipment at its new store, which opens Saturday in Santa Ana. The format will likely put it in competition with such industry giants as Staples and Office Depot.

The chain, founded in 1987, bills itself as the first to offer a complete array of office equipment and computers under the same roof. A typical store has 10,000 different products on display and can special-order an additional 25,000. “Our goal is to provide total productivity solutions for the business or home office,” said James E. Berk, BizMart’s president.

Alas, BizMart isn’t immune from the consolidation wave in the office supplies business. Its parent, Intelligent Electronics, is being acquired by OfficeMax, a division of K mart.
