Glendale : Hillside Hearing Postponed
A public hearing on an eight-lot subdivision on a steep hillside in Chevy Chase Canyon was postponed Tuesday until Jan. 19 to allow four council members to decide the controversial issue.
Councilman Larry Zarian is on vacation and was absent from the meeting Tuesday. Councilwoman Ginger Bremberg has disqualified herself from voting because the proposed 10-acre development near Linda Vista and Dunsmere roads is near her home. The council traditionally schedules hearings on controversial issues so that all eligible members can vote.
Developer Robert H. Smith of La Canada Flintridge is proposing to carve seven lots into the hillside for custom-built, single-family homes, plus dedicate another lot as open space along a stream bed. Some homeowners oppose the development because they said it is too dense and will destroy the riparian habitat.
The city Planning Commission earlier this month deadlocked on the issue, offering no recommendation to the council.
