Hawaii Pacific Hangs On to Defeat SCC
Southern California College made two major comebacks but ran out of time against Hawaii Pacific in a 91-90 loss Wednesday in the consolation game of the Disneyland Freedom Bowl Classic at the Bren Center.
SCC’s Jason McClain made a three-pointer with 1.3 seconds left that cut the lead to one, but the Vanguards were out of timeouts and Hawaii Pacific let the clock expire.
Hawaii Pacific (12-3) was led by David Smith’s 29 points. He made seven of nine three-point shots.
SCC (5-6) fell behind at the outset, 11-0, two nights after watching UC Irvine take a 22-0 lead in the Vanguards’ first-round loss.
This time, SCC came back, taking a 44-43 halftime lead behind the play of Danin Bryant, who finished with 20 points, and reserve guard McClain, who scored 16.
