A man was shot and slightly wounded early Friday morning after an altercation erupted at a New Year’s Eve party, police said.

Chad R. Palmer, 19, apparently got in a fight and was thrown out of a house party in the 6100 block of Sydney Drive just after 1 a.m., police said. He returned a short while later with his brother, 25-year-old Alan R. Palmer, and a .22 caliber pump-action rifle, police said.

Police allege that Alan Palmer threatened to kill James Neumann, 31, and then shot him in the lower leg.

The brothers chased Neumann down the street, and Chad Palmer allegedly beat him with a stick. The brothers then fled in a car, police said.

Officers, who were guided by a Huntington Beach police helicopter, followed the Palmers’ vehicle into Westminster, where the brothers were arrested and a firearm was seized.

Both were booked into the city jail.

Alan Palmer faces charges of attempted murder, and Chad Palmer was being held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Neumann was treated for a superficial gunshot wound to his lower leg at Pacifica Community Hospital on Friday and released, police said.
