Quarterback Steve Young of the San Francisco 49ers was selected as the NFL’s offensive player of the year by the Associated Press.
Young, a backup to Joe Montana for four seasons and the subject of trade rumors before the season, led the 49ers to an NFL-best 14-2 record. He led the NFL with a 107 quarterback rating and completed 66.7% of his passes for 25 touchdowns.
