Art classes for children ages 6 to 14 begin this week at three Orange County facilities. At the Newport Harbor Art Museum’s “Art After School” for ages 6 to 12, instructor Tommye Jurak will take children into the gallery for a tour of “El Corazon Sangrante/The Bleeding Heart,” then help them create their own works based on their impressions of the exhibit. Classes will meet Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Jan. 13 through Feb. 3. Fee: $40. Register through Newport’s Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department, (714) 644-3151.
Architectural design and creative problem solving are the twin themes of “Vitruvius,” an ongoing program for ages 6 to 12 at the Laguna Art Museum. Also in Laguna, the Art Institute of Southern California will be host of “Hands On!,” an introductory ceramics course for children 6 to 14. These sessions will meet Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m., Jan. 12 through Feb. 9 (Fee: $95) or from 9:30 to noon on Saturdays, Jan. 16 through Feb. 13. Fee: $105. Call (714) 497-3309.
