VENTURA : Police Union, City Meet With Mediator

Share

Ventura city officials and representatives of the city’s police union met with a state mediator Thursday to break an impasse in contract negotiations stemming from a salary dispute.

Officials on both sides said they were satisfied with the meeting, although the contract is not yet settled. It was the first time that the two groups had met since an impasse was declared two months ago.

“We’re talking, so I guess that’s a good sign,” said Cpl. William Dzuro, president of the Ventura Police Officers’ Assn.

Another meeting has been scheduled in early February, said Steve Dunn, the city’s personnel officer.

The union is seeking a pay raise, but city officials have said the city has no money to fund a salary increase.
