CAMARILLO : Men Tie Up Couple and Ransack Home

Intruders burst into the bedroom of a Camarillo couple early Thursday morning, tied them up, ransacked the house and drove away in their new Jeep, sheriff’s deputies said.

Richard and Ann Cochran were asleep about 12:30 a.m. when the men entered the house in the 1200 block of Bedford Drive through a rear garage door. The men tied up the couple using electrical cord and covered their heads.

“We didn’t hear a thing,” Richard Cochran, 51, said. “They rolled us over and tied us up.”

The robbery happened so quickly that the couple was unable to get a look at the men, but they believe that their faces were covered and that there were three of them, Cochran said.

“They told us to stay calm and we wouldn’t get hurt,” he said. The men ransacked the house for about 15 to 20 minutes, taking computer and stereo equipment, television, jewelry, pots and pans, food, tools from the garage and the Jeep.

“They didn’t hurt us,” Cochran said. When they left, Cochran freed himself and his wife and called police. The couple were still shaken and stunned that the robbery could have happened in such a quiet residential area.

The Jeep was recovered Thursday morning in Garden Grove, where it had been abandoned, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Barnes. None of the stolen items were recovered, and investigators have no suspects in the case.

“This is not your common robbery,” he said. “They were very polite and professional.”

A father and son were robbed at their Bell Canyon home in a similar incident Tuesday. Two masked men tied them up, took their money and fled in their car, authorities said.

Barnes said he does not know whether the two robberies are related.
