Mark Bureau and Brian Bradley scored for the Lightning, which has lost seven of its last eight.

St. Louis 1, Detroit 0--Rookie goaltender Guy Hebert earned his first career shutout by stopping 31 shots as the Blues won their fourth game in a row, at Detroit.

Hebert made an early goal by defenseman Garth Butcher stand up as Detroit lost for only the fourth time in 14 games.

Butcher scored at 7:46 of the first period when his shot from the top of the right circle got through a crowd in front of the net and beat Detroit goaltender Tim Cheveldae high on the stick side. It was Butcher’s fourth goal of the season and first in the last 13 games.

N.Y. Rangers 3, Vancouver 3--Mike Gartner’s goal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation gave New York the tie, extending the Rangers’ unbeaten streak against the visiting Canucks to 13 games.

Gartner, who had made the score 2-2 4:58 into the third period, took Adam Graves’ pass in the lower left circle and put a backhander between Kirk McLean’s pads.

The Rangers thought they had won with 22.3 seconds left in overtime when Ed Olczyk appeared to put the puck into the net. It turned out, however, that he scored with a puck that had been thrown onto the ice from the seats.

The Rangers are 10-0-3 against the Canucks since Feb. 21, 1988, and 64-17-8 overall, New York’s best showing against any NHL team.
