HOLLYWOOD : Groups Demand Cleanup of Abandoned Buildings

Share

A coalition of Hollywood homeowners and neighborhood watch groups demanded Wednesday that city officials clean up and secure abandoned buildings that attract gangs and homeless teen-age squatters.

“They’re dealing drugs out of these buildings,” said Sharon Romano, a real estate agent who lives near an abandoned building on Holly Drive and is a member of United Streets of Hollywood, a coalition of more than 30 groups.

Officer Bill Frio, an LAPD spokesman, said neither the department nor the city has the funds to appoint an officer for every situation.
