Santa Monica : Student Mentor Program

Share

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is looking for volunteers to participate in a student mentor program at Santa Monica High School.

The program, “Partners in Learning,” is designed to help high school students who are motivated to stay in school and graduate, but who would benefit from tutoring and encouragement from an adult.

Mentors will have the opportunity to influence a young life and perform a vital community service, school district spokeswoman Catherine Habel said.

Volunteers will work with one student at least one hour a week throughout the school year.

Those who are interested in the program may attend a meeting from 11 a.m. to noon or from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Board Room of the school district Administration Building, 1651 16th St. Information: Harriet Wibel at (310) 450-8338, Ext. 234.

“Partners in Learning” is sponsored by Santa Monica College, the Latino Resource Organization, the Santa Monica Retired Teachers Assn., the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District PTA Council, Joint Venture Planned Parenthood Los Angeles and Santa Monica GEMS.
