Athletics Trade Harold Baines to Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles traded two minor league pitchers to the Oakland Athletics for outfielder/designated hitter Harold Baines, who signed a one-year, $1.1-million contract on Thursday. Baines batted .253 with 16 home runs and 76 runs batted in last season. He played in 140 games, 19 in right field.
To get Baines, the Orioles gave up Bob Chouinard, 20, who led the Class-A Midwest League with a 2.08 earned-run average last season, and Allen Plaster, 22, who had a 2.87 ERA with Frederick in the Class-A Carolina League.
