ANAHEIM : Hit-and-Run Injuries Fatal to Pedestrian
A 52-year-old man run over by a hit-and-run driver Thursday night in Anaheim died Friday morning at UCI Medical Center.
A medical center spokeswoman said the man, identified as Anthony Smissen, 52, of Anaheim, was brought to the Orange hospital in critical condition after suffering major head injuries and a broken leg. He died at 10:45 a.m. Friday.
Anaheim police reported that Smissen was walking in a crosswalk at Lincoln Avenue and East Street about 10 p.m. Thursday night when a red pickup truck southbound on East Street ran him down. According to police, the driver turned the truck around and ran over Smissen again before fleeing.
The suspect’s vehicle has tentatively been identified as a 1970 to 1975 Chevrolet full-size pickup truck. Anyone with information about the collison is asked to call (714) 254-1835.
