Los Angeles Redevelopment

I’d like your reporter to visit my neighborhood near USC so he can see for himself the value of redevelopment.

Near the turn of the century, Adams-Normandie ranked as the premier place to live. It fell into decline decades ago but is slowly coming back in large part because my neighbors and I have put the CRA to work.

Under the guidance of the Project Area Committee, which I chair, CRA has rehabilitated more than 1,000 older homes, built a new senior citizen housing development, and improved and expanded a local recreation and park facility.

CRA also has paid for graffiti removal, new street trees and improved lights. It has helped with some commercial development but the heavy emphasis has been on rehabilitation and public improvements. Whenever we have presented the agency with a challenge, it has responded.

I was both confused and troubled when I read blind criticism of the agency in your article. The reporter should see for himself redevelopment at work before he writes his next piece.
