David Robinson’s jump shot, ineffective during a three-game trip last week, returned in a big way Saturday night.

Robinson made 20 of 28 shots, including 12 from more than 15 feet, in scoring a career-high 52 points as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Charlotte Hornets, 124-111, for their sixth consecutive victory.

“This made up for the last three games,” said Robinson, who had made only 16 of 47 shots (35%) in the three previous games. Matched against rookie Alonzo Mourning, Robinson also had 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

“It’s my first time playing against him,” said Mourning, who led the Hornets with 24 points. “He shot a bunch of jump shots that went in. When you’ve got somebody 7-foot tall and he’s standing out there shooting jump shots, there’s not much you can do about it.”

Robinson even made hit a three-pointer in the first half and made another jump shot with his foot on the three-point line.

“Tonight the jump shot just felt good,” Robinson said. “We tried to take advantage of the matchups.”
