NBA ROUNDUP : Jordan’s 64 Not Enough to Hold Off Magic

Michael Jordan’s NBA season-high 64 points wasn’t enough for the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night as they lost to the Orlando Magic, 128-124, in overtime at Chicago.

Jordan and Indiana’s Reggie Miller held the previous high with 57 points. Jordan, whose career high is 69 points, made 27 of 49 field-goal attempts against the Magic, which also won at Boston on Friday night.

Scott Skiles scored 31 points for the Magic. Shaquille O’Neal had 29 points and 24 rebounds.

Nick Anderson made a three-point basket with 1.4 seconds left in the fourth quarter to force overtime and scored five of his 18 points in the extra session.

With 1:07 left in overtime and the score tied, 118-118, Anderson made the first of two free throws to put the Magic ahead for good, then followed his miss on the second attempt with a basket that made it 121-118.

Jordan made 11 of 15 shots in the first quarter for 22 of the Bulls’ 32 points.

“Sixty-four points doesn’t mean a thing when you lose,” said Jordan, who has six games of 60 or more and 31 50-point games in his career.

Houston 104, New York 102-- Hakeem Olajuwon scored a season-high 42 points and blocked Greg Anthony’s final shot of the game to prevent a possible overtime at Houston as the Rockets won their fourth in a row.

Olajuwon, who had 14 rebounds, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter and Matt Bullard came off the bench with 11 points in the final 12 minutes, including two three-pointers.

Boston 110, Milwaukee 99--Reggie Lewis scored 20 points to lead a balanced attack at Milwaukee as the Celtics picked up their eighth victory in nine games and sent the Bucks to their sixth loss in a row.

Xavier McDaniel had 19 points, and Dee Brown and Kevin Gamble had 17 each.

Frank Brickowski scored 27 points and Blue Edwards 21 for the Bucks.

Cleveland 127, Atlanta 99--Brad Daugherty scored 19 points on nearly perfect shooting and Larry Nance had 20 points and 14 rebounds at Richfield, Ohio, as the Cavaliers ended the Hawks’ four-game winning streak.

Daugherty was five of six from the floor and nine of 10 from the foul line. Teammate Terrell Brandon was even more efficient, making all eight of his shots for 16 points and adding nine assists.

Philadelphia 123, Detroit 108-- Jeff Hornacek scored 25 points and Tim Perry had a season-high 21 on nine-for-nine shooting as the 76ers won at Philadelphia.

Hornacek made 11 of his 15 shots as Philadelphia ended a five-game skid against the Pistons.

New Jersey 109, Washington 101--Derrick Coleman scored 27 points to lift the Nets to their fourth consecutive victory in a game played at Baltimore.

Pervis Ellison led Washington with 28 points, and Harvey Grant scored 20. Drazen Petrovic had 26 points for the Nets.

Indiana 117, Golden State 116--Reggie Miller scored the last five points of the game, including a steal and layup with 39 seconds left, as the Pacers beat the Warriors at Indianapolis.

Miller, who finished with 20 points, rallied the Pacers from a 116-112 deficit with 1:52 left.

Utah 108, Sacramento 107--Karl Malone scored 30 points as the Jazz rallied to defeat the Kings at Salt Lake City for their 12th consecutive home victory.

Malone had a chance to ice the game with 16.8 seconds left, but he missed two free throws. Sacramento’s Spud Webb then made only one of two free throws with 10.8 seconds to play.

Denver 106, Dallas 91--Former USC guard Robert Pack scored all of his 19 points in the second half as the Nuggets kept the Mavericks winless on the road, handing them their 30th loss in 32 games.

Derek Harper had a season-high 35 points for the Mavericks, who are 0-15 on the road.
