Giving Credit for Ahmanson
County Supervisor Maria VanderKolk has been taking a lot of heat lately regarding her stance and recent vote on the Ahmanson Ranch project. This loud and strident opposition has been coming from a small but vocal group of narrow-minded, one-issue individuals.
Although the political hyperbole has been emanating from a sector of the public that labels itself environmentalists, I find it bizarre that they cannot see the forest for the trees. The true issue, and not the noisy smoke screen, is: What gives the most benefit to the most people while affording the least harm to the majority as well.
The Ahmanson project is innovative, well-designed and will be a national model for community development for a long time to come.
