Wisconsin Milwaukee Beats CS Northridge
Marc Mitchell scored 17 points and had 11 assists to lead Wisconsin Milwaukee to a 78-65 victory over Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
Craig Green added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers (15-1), who had five players score in double figures.
The Matadors, who got a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds from Peter Micelli, fell to 7-8.
“I would much rather face a taller team because our quickness is more of a weapon for us,” Northridge Coach Pete Cassidy said. “They are such a quick team and Marc Mitchell is such a great point guard.”
The loss ended Northridge’s five-game win streak, the school’s longest in NCAA Division I. It was also the team’s biggest losing margin this season.
Wisconsin Milwaukee took a 42-33 halftime lead and stretched it to 58-42 with 13:03 to play on a basket by Tim Ricks. Northridge cut the deficit to 67-57 on a basket by Andre Chevalier with 5:23 remaining, but were unable to get any closer. Chevalier scored 11 points before fouling out of the game with 23 seconds to play.
