SAN FERNANDO : Council Seeks Long-Term Drop in Liquor Sale Outlets

Share

The San Fernando City Council, under rising pressure from activists who blame alcohol sales for crime problems, has tentatively approved an ordinance that would forbid establishment of new liquor sales outlets until the number of liquor stores in business drops substantially.

The council this week also voted to extend a ban on issuance of permits for liquor sales outlets until February, 1994, when it hopes to have the permanent law in place.

The law would prohibit issuance of permits to establish liquor stores and alcohol sales permits for established stores, until there is no more than one outlet per 1,000 residents. The current ratio is one outlet per 428 residents.
