Regarding “The Class Acts of 2011 and 2012,” by Robert Hilburn (Jan. 10):

Hilburn rattles off the same quotes about artists, and he’s becoming pathetic: “Axl Rose is this generation’s Jim Morrison.” Oh, please, give it a rest already.

Rose does not know how to blend poetry the way Morrison did. Morrison’s low (not screechy) vocals with the Doors got them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not his behavior.

Guns N’ Roses is just a mediocre metal band that has sold a lot of records. So what!

And by the way, the “one-dimensional attraction suggested by its media identity” was all arranged by the promotional department of the group’s record label. And no, its “sensitivity and astute social observation” are mediocre at best.

Please, readers, don’t join Hilburn’s bandwagon.
