Goaltender Ed Belfour gained his 25th victory of the season Sunday night as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 6-2, in a game of division leaders at Chicago.

The Blackhawks scored two shorthanded goals and one on a power play during a four-goal second period.

Belfour, tied with Pittsburgh’s Tom Barrasso for the NHL lead in victories, made 29 saves and his teammates killed off the Canucks’ power play seven times until Doug Lidster broke through with a rebound shot at 7:05 of the final period.

The Blackhawks, winners of seven of their last eight games, moved eight points ahead of Detroit in the Norris Division, while Vancouver maintained its eight-point advantage over Calgary in the Smythe Division.

Chicago’s Steve Larmer scored his 30th goal for the ninth time in his career, from the top of the left circle, to touch off the four-goal barrage at 13:14.

Forty seconds later, Greg Gilbert scored on a 10-foot shot after Dave Christian had picked off an errant clearing pass during a Vancouver power play.

With the Canucks still on a power play, Steve Smith banged in a 10-footer at 15:13 after Stephane Matteau had stolen the puck.

Chicago then made good on the power play at 16:14 when Michel Goulet scored his 525th goal.

Philadelphia 5, Hartford 4--Ric Nattress’ goal with 2:23 to play in overtime lifted the Flyers to the victory at Philadelphia.

Nattress’ wrist shot from the right boards glanced off Hartford defenseman Zarley Zalapski’s stick and slipped past Hartford goalie Frank Pietrangelo for Nattress’ fifth goal of the season.

The Flyers ended a three-game losing streak. Hartford, which has lost six of its last seven games, is 5-18-0 on the road.

Philadelphia had tied the game on a power-play goal in the third period. Pietrangelo was hit with a hooking penalty with 3:10 remaining, setting up the power play. Greg Hawgood scored his seventh goal of the season on a shot through teammate Pelle Eklund’s screen.

Tampa Bay 2, Minnesota 2--A goal by rookie Rob Zamuner at 2:34 of the third period helped the Lightning earn a tie at Tampa, Fla., and gave him his first point in five games against the North Stars.

Zamuner skated over the blue line and let go a soft wrist shot that made its way between the legs of goaltender Jon Casey. The goal, Zamuner’s fifth, was the first in 29 games for the rookie.
