SANTA CLARITA : Panel to Discuss Route Through City

Share

Santa Clarita’s Citizen Transportation Advisory Committee will conduct its first public meeting at 7 p.m. today for residents to comment on proposals for an east-west route through the city.

The meeting will take place at Valley View School, 19414 Sierra Estates Drive. A second meeting is scheduled Feb. 18 in the City Council chambers, 23920 Valencia Blvd.

“The idea is to both inform the public about what the committee is looking at and to receive public comment,” said City Manager George Caravalho, who also is chairman of the 10-member committee.

In 1992, the City Council voted unanimously to oppose the state’s two proposals for an eight-lane expressway that would serve as an east-west extension of California 126 through the city between the Golden State and Antelope Valley freeways. The council responded to protests by hundreds of residents who complained that the two proposed routes would displace houses, businesses, planned development projects and a wildlife habitat.
