LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Carjacking Suspects Wound Off-Duty Sheriff’s Deputy
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy was shot in the leg during an attempted carjacking on Los Angeles’ Eastside, and two suspected carjackers were arrested in a separate incident in Torrance, authorities said Thursday.
Deputy Elizabeth Aguilena, 27, was wounded when several suspects approached her car and one ordered her out at gunpoint after she stopped at State Street at the San Bernardino Freeway at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
One suspect fired several times, striking the deputy once as she sped away, investigators said. She drove herself to County-USC Medical Center where she was reported in stable condition, police said. The suspects fled on foot.
In Torrance, an 18-year-old man and a juvenile were arrested Wednesday after they allegedly stole a van at gunpoint from a woman at a shopping center. The woman was uninjured.
