LOS ANGELES : Probe Urged in Handling of Airport Parking Contract

Share

The Los Angeles City Council was urged Friday to investigate the Airport Commission’s recent handling of a multimillion-dollar parking lots contract whose bidders include a longtime ally of Mayor Tom Bradley.

The motion by council members Joel Wachs and Ruth Galanter follows the commission’s decision to reopen competition for the contract to manage parking lots at the city’s three primary airports--LAX, Van Nuys and Ontario. Commissioners made that move after their staffs raised questions about a joint venture that once seemed certain to get the contract. The joint venture includes a company owned by former Public Works Commissioner and City Council candidate Homer Broome.

The request for an inquiry was sent to a committee for debate.
