Woman Hurt in Crash Still in Critical Condition

A 25-year-old woman remained in critical condition Monday after a head-on collision Sunday that killed one of her passengers.

Norma Blanco, 25, of South Gate remains hospitalized at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo. Norma Valdez, 45, of Santa Ana who was riding in Blanco’s vehicle, died at the scene. The women’s vehicle was hit on Laguna Canyon Road by a driver suspected of being drunk.

A 12-year-old girl who was in the car with the women was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with moderate injuries.

Police arrested Enrique Cisneros, 20, of Santa Ana on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. He was discharged Monday from Mission Hospital but remans in police custody, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

The crash occurred at 3:38 p.m. Sunday when Cisneros’ pickup truck swerved into the northbound lane and hit Blanco’s car, police said. All passengers were wearing seat belts, a CHP spokesperson said.
