Violence Hits Home

As a mother of three children, I find it totally deplorable that my family knew six innocent children in our community that have been massacred in cold blood over the past few years.

These children had many things in common. They all lived, played, loved and went to school in the neighborhoods of Granada Hills, Chatsworth, Porter Ranch and Northridge.

As a child who grew up and thrived in the San Fernando Valley, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would personally know six children who would lose their lives in such barbaric ways.

The latest tragedy is that of John Michael Holden of Porter Ranch. A young man, 19 years old, who lost his life while trying to make a few dollars at Amecis Pizza a mile away from his home.

I will no longer accept comments from certain elected officials who shame the people of the San Fernando Valley for instilling values in our families. Having a good work ethic, being proud of our heritage, our values and caring about the quality of life and education our children receive are all positive qualities which should be applauded, not ridiculed.
