A race car crashed into a tree at Lion Country Safari complex in Irvine, killing both men on board, authorities said. John Hartley Clark, 52, of Rolling Hills Estates died Sunday after brain surgery at a Mission Viejo hospital. His passenger, Eric Carl Lindquist, 37, a Riverside firefighter, died at the hospital Monday. Witnesses said Clark’s classic 1965 Lotus Elan went out of control at high speed Sunday as it entered a turn and hit a tree at the autocross race course in the complex parking lot.
