Car Hits Bus, Injuring Child Aboard
A school bus was struck by a car Thursday afternoon, causing minor injuries to one child aboard the bus.
The Newport-Mesa Unified School District bus was going east on Eastgate Drive with three children aboard when a car ran into its side, said Highway Patrol Officer Jack Allen. The motorist’s attention had been diverted by a student in the crosswalk, Allen said.
An 8-year-old aboard the bus was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach where he was treated for minor injuries.
The bus driver and the other two students were not injured in the 3:45 p.m. accident.
Both the bus and car sustained minor damage, Allen said. He could not say whether the motorist had been cited.
