Los Alamitos Suspends Yoakum for One Year
Jerry Yoakum, who led the jockeys’ standings at the recently concluded Los Alamitos quarter horse meeting, was suspended for one year by track stewards for possession of an electrical device and methamphetamines on Jan. 16, the closing night of the meeting.
The suspension began Thursday.
Yoakum, 21, won 36 races at the 31-night winter meeting, four more than Henry Garcia.
On Jan. 16, Yoakum and two other jockeys were searched before the 10th race, but no illegal materials were found. California Horse Racing Board investigators searched his locker and found an electrical device, and methamphetamines were found in his coat jacket.
He was arrested by the Cypress police for possession of methamphetamines and later tested positive for the drug, which he claimed resulted from a prescription.
