Breakup of L.A School District

Share

It’s time people stopped seeing the issue of race behind every movement for change in this city. The breakup of the LAUSD is not about race or finances. It’s about a better education for all children. It’s about getting parents more involved all over the city. It’s about school leaders who encourage and listen to the input from parents about what is best for children.

In order to earn the right to criticize a plan, those presenting the criticism should have an alternative plan (Jan. 26). So, let’s hear from the black and Latino leaders what they propose as an alternative to breaking up the district. What suggestions do they have for improving education overall, building a more responsive school district and getting more money into the classrooms? If the LAUSD is to remain intact, it must change to meet these needs.
