The City Council will interview the seven applicants today for the council seat left vacant by the Jan. 19 death of William H. Horton.
The interviews are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., and the appointment is expected to be made at the council’s regular 6:30 p.m. meeting.
The new council member’s term will expire in November 1996.
Applicants who filed by Monday’s 5 p.m. deadline include William Estrada, a planning commissioner; Rene Ferrer, Jr., an Orange County deputy sheriff; Thomas Frazier, a planning commissioner; Alicita Lewis, an accountant and former council member; Tony Lueken, a bakery consultant; Linda Pappas-Diaz, a recent appointee to the Community Services Commission, and David White, an attorney.
Mayor Don Martinez said he wants to appoint a council member with “leadership, the ability to work on a team and to be receptive to the residents and the business community.”
Any council member will be able to nominate someone from the seven applicants.
The first applicant to receive three votes will take the council seat.
