Jane Fowler Morrison; Retired Film Editor

Jane Fowler Morrison, daughter of late newspaperman Gene Fowler and a magazine columnist and a film editor, has died at a Woodland Hills hospital. She was 72.

Mrs. Morrison died Jan. 21 of natural causes, said her brother, Will Fowler of Sherman Oaks.

Born in New York City, she moved to California as a teen-ager and graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1939. She later studied interpretive dance under choreographer Martha Graham in Los Angeles for two years. In the late 1940s, she went to New York where she wrote a home economics column for American Weekly Magazine. She returned to Los Angeles about 10 years later and learned film editing from her brother, Gene Fowler Jr. She worked as an assistant film editor for various studios including Universal, Four Star, MGM and Lorimar. Her credits include “Hang ‘Em High” (1968) and the television shows “Gunsmoke,” “The Waltons” and “Falcon Crest.” She retired in the mid-1980s.

Mrs. Morrison was the only daughter of the late Gene Fowler, a noted New York newspaperman who later wrote scripts and books.

Mrs. Morrison is survived by her two brothers. Her husband, Paul Morrison, died in 1982.

A funeral was held Jan. 27, with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale.
